Sophie started walking! Last Friday, a few steps in the girls' bedroom. Monday, a few steps solo at the playground. Tuesday, caught it on camera! Wednesday, cruising (when she wants to). Sophie can walk! Madeleine is about as thrilled with this as I am. As Marc has been somewhat absent with work, he has yet to see her in her full toddling glory. But it is awesome! Before her first birthday! This is unprecedented (by precedent, we mean Madeleine) to walk so 'early'! She is so proud of herself when she does it. Madeleine and I are always telling people, "She walks! She walks!" We're very excited.
Madeleine came up to me last week as I was polishing off my fried egg for breakfast. "Mommy, you didn't read scriptures to me yet! Here they are {plops my quad down on the kitchen table}. Let's read about that prophet! The one with the tight boat! {reference to Brother of Jared}." I've been trying to read to the girls each morning during breakfast and we've done pretty well. I have mistakenly thought that if I miss a day they wouldn't notice. Ostensibly, they will! God bless them. I love her.
On the other hand, three days ago I heard Madeleine say "stupid" for the first time. Her shirt was stupid because she couldn't get it on by herself. Usually, the word we use is "frustrating." Daycare has done it! Exposure to language that I'd rather not have her use indiscriminately. Wha-bam! They grow up! But after I put her in time-out for using the word on Wednesday, I heard her put her doll in time out for using the same word. I guess she's learning her lesson?
And Sophie, while walking and adorable AND helping to unload the dishwasher (my favorite 'chore' of the day because both girls help, genuinely and effectively help!), also throws total dramatic tantrums. It must run in the girls in our family (me, Madeleine, now her - poor Marc!). Three times this morning she's tried to get my phone or wallet and when I take them away or move them away from her... ALL OUT FIT. Hands banging her temples, wailing and gnashing of {her 8} teeth, bouncing up and down on her little haunches, then throwing herself to the floor, prostrate with anger and grief. Then rolls onto her back and looks reproachfully at me with tears and more whining. Girls...

ReplyDeleteMy kids don't go to daycare, but they still picked up "stupid" and a bunch of other stuff like "I hate you!" and "I'm not your friend anymore!" Sigh. Kudos to Bebe #2 on her walking skills!
