Yes, in general we live THE {POOR STUDENT} LIFE. But these are not mutually exclusive, I think.
We also live THE {BUSY} LIFE and THE {LAZY} LIFE. Or at least I think I do.
Yesterday, Marc and I were both busy. He was finishing up his medical residency applications and I am studying frantically for my comprehensive exams. But we were also both lazy. How so? We took a break from our studies, and while Madeleine napped, we watched a movie. Right smack dab in the middle of the afternoon we watched a movie cuddled up on the couch together! How many 29 year old parents do you know do this? A movie. On a Wednesday. A very excellent movie, in fact. Stranger Than Fiction (2006) was previously unknown to both Marc and I but now we love it as one of the most endearing, well-written pieces of entertainment in ages. How were we oblivious to this movie before?

Anyways. Life has been very good. I'm a big fan of the student life. Perhaps this is why, since I've graduated from high school, I've been a student for 8 of the past 11 years. Of course I'm looking forward to making money. Marc and I both are. But the student life is pretty good! When else do Marc and I both have a week completely void of all commitments other than the flex-time devoted to "studying"? Yes, that's right. He was in between rotations and my classes hadn't started for the semester. We just got home from a family vacation in Canada and then spent this week AT HOME. TOGETHER. ALL THE TIME. WITH MADELEINE. That's BOTH of us present to change diapers, fix meals, do laundry, hang out, eat, take walks, take naps... Are you jealous yet? Sure we're not bringing home the bacon, but we had bacon and strawberry crepes for breakfast this morning!
So. Here's to THE {HAPPY, LAZY, BUSY, POOR, STUDENT, FAMILY} LIFE! (And yes I am aware that 'student' and 'family' are not really adjectives, but for this purpose they are.}
As one who has just bid farewell to our beloved student years, I sit and sigh while reading this post. We miss those nothing days where it just seems like life should be all of us hanging out all the time. Way to take advantage of the time you have!
ReplyDeleteYou are too cute! I'll have to check out that movie:) ah, family time. So nice!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of your exams, when you are you going to Utah? I want to see you!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the movie pick! I totally agree about the school thing. People stay in school where else do you get 3 weeks off at christmas & summer breaks its rare when you join the real world and start working. Growing up sucks. Way to reconize the good things before they go away
