Slow Cookin' Sophie

Sophie is growing up. She's our happy, doll baby. At first we thought she was huge! She weighed more than Madeleine at birth, we called her chunky monkey because she actually had/has one or two rolls on her legs, and those triple chins... gotta love 'em! Turns out that she's not huge... she's actually stopped growing, or so her doctors report. Well, she's getting taller, but not heavier (try telling me that when I lift her out of the crib at 2am for night nursing). Apparently she hasn't gained any weight between her 4 month pediatric check up and 6 month check up. And we didn't get her weighed at 7 months.

What can I tell you? I can tell you that she's growing in all her faculties and cuteness. As most people will comment on seeing her, she's looking taller/longer, and while she may not be getting heavier, as her parents, we're okay with it. She's slow on many aspects: super, super attached to mommy so independence is not her thing; no teeth have come in yet; she's not rolling (but likes tummy time and sits up like a champ); she's not sleeping through the night (I'd stop feeding her every 2.5 hours when she wakes up each night except for the threat of her pediatrician suggesting that she's falling precipitously off the growth curve); she's not taking a bottle or eating solid foods; and she still ~looks~ bald, but she's actually got some light hair on that head of hers!

But she's fast to make you love her! That's what counts! And the sisterly love between her and Madeleine... too precious to describe in words or to take time to capture in a photo. It's got to be burned in my brain how I love those moments.

She's a slow cooker, but life and growing are a marathon, not a sprint, right? She's just enjoying life - and so are we! We cannot imagine life without this darling.

  1. Natalie,

No worries, Saha's the same way. She's gained like maybe 2 pounds in the past 3-4 months but she's gotten taller and she eats a TON, so we're not concerned. Plus, how can I really complain if she'd rather eat apples and bananas than cheese? So what if she's 10-25% for weight? She's 50% for height and head circumference.
