1. Our basil is growing. Our back porch is such a treat. We put up a tarp over part of the porch, so there is more shade. We can hang our clothes out to dry there, and our BBQ has served us well this summer!
2. Had a wonderful Family Home Evening (FHE) with some friends. They are new members and so excited about the gospel. They have 4 little boys. And the boys were HILARIOUS. Good times, good times.
3. Spent Thursday night at the Mann Center, an outdoor theatre, home of of the Philadelphia Orchestra during the summer. Midori was playing and it was spectacular!!! Ah, the talent! We went with a group of Wellesley Alums and the more I do with the Wellesley-in-Philadelphia club, the more nostalgic I get for my Alma Mater. Truly... shout out to all girls of highschool age and all mothers who want their daughters to go to college: consider Wellesley! It ranks in the top 3 happiest, most fulfilling decisions I've made in my life! (Marc and my mission being the other two.) Anyways, the night was perrrrrfect! There were supposed to be thundershowers all night, and I guess that scared away some of the audience, but we sat out on dry grass and listened without any distraction-- just watching the clouds and the trees move to the music. I love outdoor concerts. And the night was even more enjoyable because one of the alums is married to a Frenchman and her and her kids just got back from their summer vacation in France. Marc and I had so much fun buddying around with the 3 darling children whose French accents were, to me, music to my ears. Small children speaking perfect French-- it's always so awe-inspiring to me! Marc and I will definitely go again to the Mann.
4. Saturday: Tons of fun at the ward party at the park, we were playing old-time games and munching on treats. Marc and I beat the socks off of everyone in the three-legged race and I whipped all the women in hammering a nail into a board faster and straighter than all else (Marc came in a close second all around). It was just so much fun to be with our friends on an early Saturday morning! And we spent more time with them, driving them home, and having them visit at our house. We lounged a bit in the afternoon, cleaning the house and making fish tacos- yum! Then, we went to a driving range. I'm terrible! But I had sooo much fun! We inherited a women's set and a men's set of clubs from our friends, the Rogers, and so we figured we might as well put them to good use. In any case, at first, I was PATHETIC. And by the end, I had achieved my goal of hitting past 50 yards! I actually was hitting around 70 yards by the end! And straight, too! Wahoo! We ended the evening by treating ourselves to water ice and a movie. We agreed that this Saturday would have been better only if we had also hit up some garage sales in the morning. But other than that... what a perfect summer day!!!
Getting ready for the watermelon seed spitting contest.
