Green Trends

So, ever since marrying Marc I've been more "green." Eco-friendly, that is, and not envious. If he were even slightly more tree-huggish, I don't know if I could handle it, but he's mastered a fairly good balance between conscientious and obsessed. He doesn't have me convinced on the single-level, circular, solar-powered home in the community he dreams of building, but I don't mind the solar-energy part as long as my house is architecturally pleasing to me. And I even enjoyed watching the 'powerpoint' by Al. We may mock the format and how much hype it gets, and how his jet trips around the world to present his slideshow may seem hypocritical, but I think the points he makes are solid and it never hurts to help more people be mindful.

I'm now a fan of SEPTA (public transportation in Philadelphia) for getting to and from work and most mornings prefer the bus/subway to driving (get's me there 5 minutes faster and I have time to read! I also have some excellent bus friends).

Marc's even got me contemplating PhillyCarShare if one of our vehicles ever expires! I think the idea is genius! All cities should adopt this. And if I ever move to city where it's not implemented, I might get out my entrepreneurship hat and introduce it myself!

In a similar vein, I just love how California seems to be a trendsetter in so many arenas (I'm thinking of a few fashion trends, public health initiatives, and laissez-faire attitude) but check this out! Tax incentives for business and government alike, better use for alcohol in general, but particularly for confiscated alcohol, and add in (gross!) some human waste, etc. Voila! Biogas! Go Sweden! Scandanavia and Europe in general also have some pretty cool ideas. I hope all child future scientists out there are thinking of how they could revolutionize the world in useful ways.

I love this earth! Although I don't always do my part to keep it as pristine as God made it to deserve, I do love it and hope my conscience edges me towards more "green" actions day by day!
