P.S. Monte Cristo

So, I'm only 2/3 of the way through Count of Monte Cristo (give me a break here, I've got two kids, one who doesn't sleep through the night and a dissertation to write... I don't get much leisure reading in...) and already I'm just dying to have the visions in my head played out on screen. It's SUCH an awe-inspiring, breathtaking, hand wrenching book. I love it. And I quickly watched a few YouTube scenes of the 2002 film of the same name. Beautiful actors; so poorly attuned to the actual plot. So, my plea is, to any movie directors who stumble upon my blog... will you PLEASE please PLEASE make some 6 hour screen version of the book that does Dumas justice? Think BBC's Pride and Prejudice. Please?

The first time I read Monte Cristo, I don't remember wanting to SEE it so badly. But I think that's because I read it before the film came out. Now I know that it has been attempted, and I really want it someone to create a successful rendition. Please? Anyone? Anyone?

P.S. And I really did mean it about the beautiful people part. I love me some fine-lookin' actors and actresses. James Caviezel and Dagmara Dominczyk? Oh la la. Hot!

  1. I totally agree, Nat. The movie left a lot to be desired. I love, Love, LOVE the book. Now I want to read it again. Like, starting today. Maybe I will. : )

  2. Have you seen the French 4 part mini-series with Gerard Depardieu? It was great! Becca let me borrow it back when I spent all day on the couch nursing a newborn. It's definitely closer to the plot than the 2002 movie, though I don't know if it's word perfect.

  3. Ditto Lori's comment--the French one isn't perfect, but much closer!

I love this book! Can't wait for your concluding thoughts about the book! (after you get some sleep and crank out some brilliant dissertation writing!)

  5. Ugh. Sadly, Teresa, I have read Anna Karenina and despite wanting to like it because it is good literature, I just cannot stomach it. Not a fan of Anna. And the movie. I'm shallow. I didn't think the actress was at all beautiful so that ruined it for me as well. Well, actually, the movie was okay, considering I had such a distaste for the book.

  6. I didn't care at ALL for Anna, but Monte Cristo is a favorite. There isn't a movie that does it justice. My husband hasn't read the book, but he loves the movie.. if he only knew how fabulous the story really is!
