Thick and blustery, the causal mechanism
of increased love and neighborliness.
The impetus for cuddles under blankets
and puffy, poofy snow pants.
An introduction for our little girl
to snow angels, flakes, and fights.
The next-doorsies come out to shovel out walks and cars,
chatting and eventually culminating in game nights
with popcorn and hot cocoa.
Baby points to the snow, "(s)nooo! (s)nooo!"
It keeps falling and falling.
The deck is a snow deck, we bathe in drifts.
No school, so schedule, no surrender to stress.
Enjoying both indoors and outdoors this February.
I got me a happy dose of snow glow!
This is a Christmas picture of our wee little family. No, we did not plan the holiday color coordination - just wanted to wear our new clothes!
(One of) The best wedding gifts! My friend Katrina thoughtfully and talentedly (not a word? It should be.) sewed Marc and I Christmas stockings for our wedding present. I love them dearly. They are of intricately fine quality. I was so impressed and touched that when Madeleine came along I wanted to make hers. Well, Christmas 2008 came and went and no creative bursts of seams took place. But I was ready for Christmas 2009. With my mother's kindly and talented help and through careful studying of Katrina's fine workmanship I attempted to imitate style and quality and sew Madeleine's stocking! I love the fabric that we found. And it made me so happy to make something on my [own] (+ my mother's devoted help). Have I posted about this already? Oy. Amnesia. Old age. Yup. 3-0. I'm in my third decade of life now and I cannot remember a durned thing. Sorry for the double dose if this is a repeat! I honestly cannot remember.
Mammoth post, I know...
Happy moment for the day? This winter weather is making me and ma vie a little cuddly. I was reading/studying a school article on the futon in the study, with highlighter in hand. I have no photos but insert studious, pensive facial expressions here. Madeleine came in and crawled up on the futon in what I was sure was a "I'm going to stop you and distract you from studying in the most mischievous manner possible" but she just crawled over with a huge grin and wrapped her arms around my neck with a mighty hug. Then she proceeded to cuddle into my waist and shoulder and watch me read. Then she climbed on my belly and hopped, hopped hopped. I took it as a sign to play, play, play. So I put the article aside. We tickled and rolled and sat back and gazed at the snow outside while I explained the mechanics of snow on trees + wind + melting. Then I got up to do something and when I turned around, there was Madeleine propped up against the pillow in the same manner I was, with the article in her lap and the highlighter in her hands. Insert studious, pensive (with a slight smile) facial expression. It was priceless. Then she looked at me and smiled. MELT!!!!! I love her.
LOVE the poem and the stocking and the snuggy story. Although I am loving the Californiaesque winter we're enjoying in Utah, I do miss those snowed-in days. I'll have plenty of time to enjoy them in the coming years, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteHappy snow glow!
That was fun. We had a few snow days here, too, with game nights together with the neighbors as a result!
ReplyDeleteSo -- I thought I glimpsed something about your moving to Michigan? Or is that just another possibility on the resident tour?
J'adore la chaussette de Noel! Felicitations. Je n'arrive pas a coudre si bien. Jalouse!
ReplyDeleteThat is so precious that she sat down just like how you were. She really looks up to her momma! I can't wait for my own little one to come any time now!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday, too!
What a great post, Natalie. And not just because the stockings are highlighted. : ) Yours turned out so cute! I'm glad you wrote down the studying story--those are the moments you just want to remember forever. She is so precious.
ReplyDeleteI love the (s)no, Lilli says it exactly the same way, too cute. So Eric's residency is only a year, July to July. I have to say I'm pretty excited to try out "rural" Pennsylvania. Philly definately is it's own little country here! Great post, I always like what you have to say. :)XOXO
