Sophie recently developed new uses for her mouth and legs.
Over our vacation to Utah Sophie learned to crawl, pull herself up to standing, and eat! Our families were pretty excited to be able to see first-hand all her developments! Too bad Marc missed out on all these advancements as he was already home (working and experiencing earthquakes).
She's pretty delightful to watch now. After being surrounded by willing family Sophie has now lost some of her attachmentphilia to mama. She will usually let other people hold her (especially when I'm not around) and is happy to {finally!} entertain herself with toys (and Madeleine) for quite a while on the floor. Her crawling is her freedom! And our downfall. She'll crawl all over the house, murmuring for me, following me, and searching for me. I love that she is so mobile now, actually. Althoug this morning she pulled herself up to the edge of the bathtub and banged on the shower door, crying, the entire time I showered. I think that Madeleine is also very excited to see her sister be more mobile... I think she realizes that her little buddy just got more fun for her too! It's just such a fun milestone to reach, and considering Madeleine's slower adaptation to crawling and walking, this is quite the fun and ~early~ surprise for us!
Then there's the eating. No, she's still a breastfeeding devotee and won't take sippy cups or bottles still. However, food finally interests her! Not baby food, mind you. Nor anything that WE introduce to her by spoon or hand. She insists on feeding herself. So we may just skip babyfood. And why not? She's sampled alllll sorts of things over vacation. And we indulge her. We've been far from restrictive of her diet. Over the past 3 weeks she's sampled and mostly loved the following (don't judge!): broccoli (raw and cooked), nectarines, basil, plums, strawberries, raspberries, pasta, chinese noodles - chow fun and chow mein, whipped cream, carrots (cooked and raw), fortune cookies, popcorn, icecream, cauliflower, fried onion rings, grapes, baby food puff things, graham crackers, corn on the cob, steak, chicken and chicken bones, hummus, edamame, quick breads, bread, lemons, limes, tomatoes... yeah. Basically everything. I'm glad she's eating something in hopes that this will help her sleep better through the night. Plus, it's just fun to see them make messes of themselves and start to savor the finer things of life: FOOD!

yea for food and crawling!
ReplyDelete:) I've heard told that introducing kids to lots of different flavors early on helps them appreciate those foods later. (My baby had edamame when we went to Utah, too. And chicken bones. So much for avoiding choking hazards.)
ReplyDeleteglad we could help her overcome some of her attachmentphilia - now who will help us overcome our attachment to her??
