For all those who are creative and crafty and full of design ideas... sometimes I really do envy you. Sometimes you make me gag. Sometimes I covet. Sometimes I breathe a sigh of relief to not worry so much about appearance.
I read a Design Mom post and some of the comments and it got me thinking. Well, actually, all week I've been thinking about this since I went to the hair dresser and got a PERM and a cut. Yes. Believe it. It's true. (Body wave, really. I have my reasons - flat horse hair not being something I find attractive.) According to one of the comments and also my hair dresser, here's the deal: the impression that Utah Mormons (of which I am) are obsessed with appearance. This has suddenly come up twice in one week. That's why I thought about it.
Pick a day, randomly, and I will be both obsessed with how I look and so pathetically careless with how I dress myself and children (let alone getting my girls' hair "done") that I'm about as mixed up as they come. This extends to craftiness, cooking, domesticity of all sorts, creativity, femininity and feminism, etc. Some days I think I am, some days I know I'm not.
What I do like about creativity is summed up in this brief excerpt/highlight of one of our apostles' recent talks: we are given talents from God, discover what they are, and do something good! I surely need to work on that.
See the Mormon Messages video clip from Youtube ("Create Uchtdorf" if you want to find it yourself)... it's short and inspiring!

ReplyDeleteYes, pictures please. I suffer from carelessness about my appearance, and hating flat hair. If I see your wave, it might inspire me. My husband will thank you. and my future scrap books too. :)
ReplyDeleteI felt a lot less pressured to dress well and dress my son well when I was in Utah than I do here in France. It could be worse.(Or better? I think I have a lot nicer clothes now.)
