Happy Anniversary to us! Actually, I’m 2 months and one day short… Marc and I were married (sealed) in the Salt Lake Temple on June 4th, 2005.
We did go out to dinner this year while my parents babysat, but Madeleine was only a few days old so the celebration for our 3 year anniversary was somewhat muted. However, I can honestly say that these past two months can represent the culmination and the true celebration of what our marriage is. We have Madeleine now, we have each other, and we’ve grown to see each other embrace new roles. Marc is no longer just my husband, but he’s also the father, the daddy of our baby. And I am no longer his wife only, but the mother, or mama of our little girl. It’s really amazing how our love for each other has changed and increased, expanded and morphed as we have taken on these new roles. I think it has forced us to trust each other more, and respect and appreciate each other in new ways.
One of the things that I am so grateful for in our marriage is seeing each other serve. We started off our marriage just jumping into being with people, being at the church, being able to serve. We were in Cameroon, West Africa just 3 days after we got married and though we accomplished things unrelated to church, what I think we remember and cherish most is the time we spent at the church, teaching English, teaching music/piano, teaching FHE, participating in church and baptisms, having new members and church friends over to our apartment for card games and bananas. It was about being with and appreciating people around us. Somehow being with others, serving others helps Marc and I love and admire each other. I hope that we stay on that track… for many, many more years to come. Forever!
