Rabbit-Proof Fence is a true story of two Aboriginal girls who walk 1200 miles to make it back home. It's a beautiful, but also sad movie and sooo good. It's so horrific how every culture, it seems, engages in some sort of oppression of another race or class. It's really a heart-tender film.
Bella was exactly what the title implies, beautifully constructed. A visual treat. Kind of mystic at the end and just intriguing - I'm not sure if I fully understood what happens at the end, but the rest of the movie is so moving. Plus, the main guy is hot. Let me know if you watch either of these films... I'd love to chat about them!
We watched Bella a little while ago and also really liked it. It is always refreshing I think to see a movie that isn't the normal Hollywood blockbuster. We will have to try your other recommendation.
ReplyDeleteHello darling,
ReplyDeleteWe watched Rabbit Proof Fence a couple of months ago. Wow. It was very powerful. I was especially intrigued by two things: the incredible fortitude of the little girls in the film, and the idea of breeding the blackness out of the aborigines. I'm sure while you're breeding blackness out, you're also breeding out the family identity and cultural strength that gave these little girls such courage, fortitude, and practical skills to accomplish their task.
I could go on . . . but I'll give you a turn to say something first. :)
