Photos of me and ma vie!

Right before we moved from New Haven I discovered that I could actually buy plantains at the supermarket! So I did! And dined! This is me, trying to attack the plantains and get them stripped down and ready for frying. A Cameroon treat right in Connecticut! I guess Marc had them when he was in Honduras, but Cameroon was the first time that I'd had them and I LOVED them. Yum yum! Incidentally, I also instituted International Food Day at my work. It was a brilliant idea because we have several ethnicities and cultures represented amongst my coworkers (Italian, Jewish, Irish, German, American, New England, Ethiopian, Chinese (0kay, well, half, if you cound me), and Indian) ... all of which resulted in three hours at work spent NOT working, lots of eating, and lots of competitive cooking drive. I brought won tons. But a kid from the neighboring lab who we invited was from Cameroon and he brought plantains and I lived the joy all over again.

A few pictures of me and ma vie... in all its seasons! Our weekend in D.C. was punctuated, or themed rather, as a reminiscence of India! Oh country that I love! We visited Anne and her husband, Shamik, who is, incidentally, Indian. And Purvi (who is Indian) and her husband, Allen. We hung out with Uma, my coworker, who is Indian and whose cooking I love. I almost met up with Nate, an old buddy from my summer in India. Basically it was a dream come true, second only to the dream of actually visiting India again. Chabash!!!This is from March. Yes, the springy-month of March. We had an ice storm that left a frozen layer on our cars and yard. While Marc pushed off 2-foot chunks of ice off our cars, I spent the morning, yes, in my pjs and improvised winter gear, sliding down the little hill in our backyard. Wheeeee! Juvenile joy.

Two days before Marc and I moved from New Haven to Philadephia, we took up a generous offer from our landlady to stay in her cabin up in Vermont. What a gorgeous little trip! It's was relaxing, amidst all the packing we had done, and beautiful. I photographed the covered bridges and found them to be "soooooo romantic!" We also saw butterflies gliding above this field of grass and I got to go around sneaking up slowly, trying to capture them in pics. There were flowers and lily pads galore all over the place. "Beautiful! Wish you were here!" Our other favorite of the trip was having television!!! We were totally enraptured with all the channels and programs and stayed up late just staring at the TV, amazed at the technology which we've lacked for so long.
